!±8± Using a Bissell Power Steamer to Clean Your Carpets

When you look at your home and realize that your carpets need a makeover, you have two choices. You could tear up your dirty, soiled carpets and bring in new ones, or you could use a Bissell Power Steamer. Using a power steamer by Bissell is an excellent choice because it will deep clean you carpets, make them look new again, and save you a lot of money by not having to replace your old carpet.

The Bissell steam cleaner is a very affordable choice that will not only clean your carpet, but it will also make your old dreary rug look almost brand new again. When you are ready to begin cleaning your carpets the first thing you need to do is move all of your furniture and stuff out of the way so you will have a nice open space to begin cleaning. Then you should use your Bissell vacuum and vacuum the entire area before you begin steam cleaning.

When you are ready to use your Bissell power steamer, you will need to mix in the special cleaning solution into your Bissell steamer. Also, make sure you use only hot water (not boiling water) with the mixture. If you are not sure, just use regular tap water that is just about two hot to touch. Now you are ready to use your Bissell Power Steamer to clean your carpet.

How To Clean Your Carpets With Your Power Bissell Steamer

When you begin cleaning your dirty carpets, star cleaning in one direction. When you have about one third of your carpet cleaned this way, switch directions. This way you will be making a second pass over the area of the carpet you have already cleaned. There is no need to worry about your carpets becoming drenched with water because your power Bissell steamer has a unique way to dry your carpeting. This power steamer has air jets underneath it that will just about completely dry your carpet while you are cleaning them.

How to Get Fleas Out of Carpet -What Carpet Cleaners and Flea Killers are Available?

!±8± How to Get Fleas Out of Carpet -What Carpet Cleaners and Flea Killers are Available?

Getting rid of household fleas can be an uphill task. You have to treat your pets, which is usually where you would first detect the presence of this pesky friend. Then you would have to get rid of fleas in your house. For this, you would need to cover all areas of your house that is both indoor and outdoor. In other words, practically everything in your house has to be cleaned and treated for fleas. What's most challenging to homeowners with a flea infested home is carpet cleaning. Carpets are good breeding grounds for fleas. The eggs and larva of fleas tend to be embedded within carpets, which makes it more difficult to kill them. If you are looking for solutions to this problem, here are some tips on how to get fleas out of carpets.

Firstly, you need to vacuum your carpets frequently. Don't use any ordinary vacuum cleaner. Look for one that has powerful suction. It's easy to remove the adult fleas and eggs but the larva tend to cling onto the carpets tightly and that's why you need a vacuum cleaner that is powerful. One important point to note is that the fleas, its eggs and larva will be in the vacuum bag after cleaning. As such, you need to throw the bag away immediately and not keep for future use.

For further treatment, you may need to shampoo your carpets. You can do so by dumping the carpets into soapy hot water and leave overnight. Alternatively, you could simply throw them into a hot dryer. The soap and heat will kill off the adult fleas, its eggs and larva.
There are also carpet flea killers in the form of sprays available. Look for one containing growth inhibitors like Nylar as it helps to interrupts the flea life cycle and keeps the flea population down.

Instead of chemicals, which some may fear to be too toxic, there are also safer products available. Borate powder is an example of an effective yet relatively safe product, which has been reported to be highly popular. It comes in finely milled powder form, which can cling onto carpets providing long lasting effects.

However, take note that carpet cleaning alone would not solve your problem. Check out the section on "House Flea Control" which shows you a well thought out step-by-step plan to eradicate all fleas . You would also find treatments and products that you can follow and use to ensure better success in your attempts to remove these pesky creatures

Steam Mops - Not As Clean As You Thought

!±8± Steam Mops - Not As Clean As You Thought

Steam mops are all the rage right now. They are advertised everywhere and are being promoted as an effective and "green" solution to cleaning your floors. While in many cases those claims are correct, the fact is they are not getting your floors as clean as you think they are.

Let me explain how a steam mop works first.

The first step is to put on the microfiber cleaning pad, this soaks up any minor liquid spills and helps to spread the water vapor on the floor.

After that all you need is water, distilled water is preferred and recommended but most people just use regular tap water. Does water choice make a difference in cleaning effectiveness? No, the only concern is that tap water that has unfiltered minerals in it (hard water) can build up inside the mop and over time do damage to the heating unit.

After filling the mop with water you need to plug it in and turn it on. It usually takes about a minute or two before it's ready to clean.

Now you are ready to sanitize and disinfect your floors with ease right? Well this is where the problem starts, in order to sanitize your floor most of the major manufactures (Bissell, Eureka, Shark etc..) tell you that you need to keep the cleaning pad in place for at least 10 to 15 seconds on a single area!

Think about how long it would take you to properly sanitize a kitchen measuring 17 feet by 12 feet, a pretty average size kitchen by the way. The cleaning pad is roughly 12 inches wide (actually 10) by about 6 inches long. So it would take you approx. 45 minutes to 1 hour to sanitize your floor. That's not really a problem if you have the time and more importantly the patience to do it.

Every demonstration I have seen either through TV infomercials, TV shopping channels and online videos are not showing you the proper way to sanitize. That is misleading, so when you get your brand new steam mop home and use it the way you have seen it been used, you are not getting your floors as clean as you think.

I actually think steam mops are great for "wiping" up your floors quickly, and for doing it without harmful chemicals. The cleaning pads are machine washable and can be reused which is more environmentally friendly. But as far as "Sanitizing" goes? unless you serious and are going to take the time to use it properly, it may not be worth the effort.
